Why measure digital readiness
Most families believe they are either completely unprepared or roughly ready. The truth is almost always in between: a will exists but nobody knows where; photos are backed up in an account nobody can access; a spouse knows the phone passcode but not the password manager’s.
A score has no value in itself. Its only use is to turn a vague worry into a short list of concrete actions, ranked by impact.
What the assessment covers
The thirteen questions cover five dimensions of digital continuity: essential documents, access and passwords, online accounts and their legacy features, family memories, and personal wishes.
- Documents: whether they exist, but above all whether a relative could find them.
- Access: password manager, emergency access, devices.
- Accounts: Google Inactive Account Manager, Apple or Facebook legacy contact.
- Memories: photo backups, recorded family stories.
- Wishes: funeral preferences, a trusted person named and informed.
How to read your result
The score is a percentage across four levels: minimal readiness (0-25%), getting started (26-50%), good readiness (51-75%) and advanced readiness (76-100%). A "partly" answer counts for half the points, because partial preparation offers partial protection.
At the end, every weak point links to the page explaining what to do about it. Nothing is sold at that stage: recommendations point to free resources first.
Privacy of this assessment
No answer leaves your device. The score is computed locally in JavaScript, with no account, no email requested and no storage. We only measure, anonymously and in aggregate, how many people start the assessment, how many finish it and which score band they fall into.

- Are your important documents (identity, insurance, property) gathered in one place?
- Are your devices (phone, computer, drives, backups) listed somewhere?
- Have you named at least one trusted person who would know what to do?
- Do your written instructions (what to keep, close, pass on) exist somewhere?
- Have you set up Google’s Inactive Account Manager?
- Have you named an Apple Legacy Contact (if you use an iPhone, Mac or iCloud)?
- Do you know what Facebook, Instagram or Microsoft provide for in case of death?
- Do your irreplaceable memories (photos, videos, voices) exist anywhere other than one device?
- Are your recurring subscriptions listed somewhere?
- Have you planned for a period when you could not manage your own affairs?
- Do your relatives know where to look for this information when the time comes?
- Have you reviewed and updated this information in the last twelve months?
- Advanced preparation — The essentials are in place. What remains is upkeep: review once a year and keep the right people informed.
- Good preparation — A solid base exists. A few missing pieces would make the whole thing usable by your family.
- First foundations — You have started. The next steps are simple and take an hour or two, with no urgency.
- Ready to start — Nothing is in place yet, which is true for most people. There is only one thing to do: the first one.
